At the end of our reading month in March, Ms. Katherine and her dog, Whitney, visited the classrooms and read a book about accepting others. Whitney was a big hit; the kids loved having a pet in the school.

Spring break is almost here! Enjoy the well-deserved time off.
Mrs. Cooper's 1st-grade students learned about baby farm animals from our FFA biotech friends Natalie Lefler and JJ Hauxell. These savvy facilitators taught students the proper scientific names of baby farm animals and had some thoughtful information to share about ponies. At the end of the presentation, students asked questions and learned about different farm animals.
4th graders took a field trip to Longway Planetarium in Flint on March 14th. They enjoyed a planetarium show about our changing earth that ended with a roller coaster ride. They also participated in 2 classes: a STEM activity about earthquakes and a dissection of a sheep's eye to learn all the parts. The planetarium staff repeatedly commented about how polite and hard-working the Marlette 4th graders were! We appreciate them being respectful and representing the Marlette Spirit!
The athletic department is sharing information regarding upcoming spring sports events. There has been an increase in umpire fees, and to keep up with the costs, we have decided to charge for home baseball and softball events. We will also charge for our two large track meets, which are scheduled for April 19th and May 21st. The entry fee for all these events will be $5, and your school pass will be accepted for all events except for the track meets and the softball tournament on April 27th.
I understand that this may surprise some of you, but please know that this is a necessary step to ensure that we can continue to provide high-quality events for our community.
